The ebb and flow of the various social platforms available now is quite something. Some seem to work from the off, some take a little longer, others disappear with out trace. Usability and value seems to be the key - how easy it is to use and the function it performs for us in our digital lives - but the subtleties that emerge and evolve around how we end up using them and how they interact are never less than interesting.
I started a Tumblr recently. I use Delicious a lot, but found that the Tumblr was a better way of capturing interesting visuals and thoughts that I could return to. So it has ended up performing a function that sits somewhere between my Delicious and this blog . It hasn't stopped me using Delicious - the two services feel complementary. Likewise, it won't effect what I do here (for me, the main action will always happen here) but right now it's working for me as an easy, low-commitment, useful record of stuff that I find and I like. After I'd started, I was happy to discover that there were a number of people to whom I'm connected in different ways who were also Tumbling, and a whole bunch of other interesting Tumblr's that I now look at.
