I appreciate the insight of the stack metaphor, and the bottom up/top down movement by various companies that leverage the layers in the stack, and the importance espoused btw the seamlessness of their integration (Issacson acknowledgement to Jobs for this approach compared to the decoupling advanced by Microsoft).

I might ask how this integration might also move beyond purely social engagement to learning engagement, coupling the integration of content, social engagement, and psycho-emotional roles for for recognition/reputation online (e.g., badge systems), where we make smaller nuggets of content accessible that is driven by individual learner needs and preferences, in a self-directed, on-demand nature, while simultaneously con- joining the user with others that have similar learning goals--in a meaningful social way.. Couple the individual needs with those of the larger collective.
