Seems Red Bull is very close to being a media company that happens to sell various liquids. I wonder how far off it is before their revenues from media surpass those from liquid sales.

Great post, Neil. I have been thinking a lot about the lack of skills within agencies to think like publishers/content producers. I have written and helped run a magazine, both online and print, so at least I have some experience to back that up. HA!

But there are also other sorely missing mindsets and skills missing: the ability to be improvisational in real time, responsive and nimble. All that stuff you have written about in the past ;) Important to keep in mind as the focus finally shifts away from generic "social media" to more specific thinking around what it takes to develop a viable content strategy with social technologies/platforms.
